Be Aware When Children Are Out to Scare! Whether you’re trick-or-treating, staying home, or celebrating Halloween in your own way, here are some tips to stay safe:

Spooky Security
Consider installing a smart doorbell or outdoor security camera with night vision to monitor visitors before opening the door.
Arm your home alarm system and lock your doors to keep your valuables safe while you’re out.
Check the batteries in your smoke detector and test it before lighting any candles.
Turn on lights to signal that you’re home and accepting guests.
Keep your entrance well-lit to ensure visitors can safely navigate the pathway to your door.
Terrifying Treaters
Stick to neighborhoods you know well.
Avoid going out alone.
Start early and return home before it gets too late.
Walk, don’t run, between houses.
Cross streets at corners or crosswalks only.
Look both ways before crossing the street and use sidewalks whenever possible. walking through yards or streets.
Plan your route ahead of time to stay on one side of the street instead of zigzagging back and forth.
Keep children in sight at all times and stay together as a household. Establish a meeting spot in case you get separated.
Only approach homes with porch lights on or those clearly welcoming trick-or-treaters.
Double-check that shoelaces are tied and wear comfortable shoes, such as sneakers, instead of boots with heels.
Before You Boo
Avoid using candles in Jack-o’-lanterns or luminaries. Opt for battery-operated flames instead.
Be cautious when carving pumpkins. Use pumpkin-carving tools and keep a firm grip on the blade to prevent injuries. Alternatively, decorate pumpkins with paint or stickers for a safer option.
Choose flame-resistant costumes, wigs, and accessories. Ensure your outfit is the proper length and fit to avoid tripping or catching fire.
Test face paint for skin allergies before applying it, especially around the eyes.
Avoid using contact lenses that alter the look or color of your eyes, as they can pose risks to your eye health.
Use a flashlight, LED light, or reflective tape on your costume to ensure visibility to others, including drivers.
If wearing a mask, ensure it allows full visibility and proper breathability.
If your costume includes a sword or weapon, avoid swinging it around and keep the pointed end away from yourself and others.
Candy Safety
Never allow children to enter a home to accept candy.
Inspect candy before eating. Check bags and buckets for choking hazards and ensure all candy is properly sealed. Discard any opened or unwrapped items.
Review candy labels for potential allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, or gluten to ensure an allergy-safe Halloween.
Stay safe and enjoy the festivities!
